Really good article here – link – and quite applicable to thinking about planning the rest of your foreseeable hobby time/life. grin

Yes, Bill, we know. And even if I expected to live to be 90--I won't--and got back up to a game a week--I can't--that would be 1,200 more wargames. Divide by the number of armies on hand, and none of them will be played out. It works out to less per scale/period than my 30mm Napoleonics got in two years in my heyday.

On the more realistic assumption of nine more years and two games a month, I could sell off a period/scale every 12 games. And on the absolutely honest nine years and one game a month--well, I will not, on average, play them often enough to learn the rules.

Hence my interest in flea markets. But the smiley face was unnecessary.

A thought-provoking article!

The Feel Good read of the holidays. I can see some people spinning into an unrecoverable depression when they finish the article.

The biggest takeaway is that priorities matter.

There. I just saved you a few minutes by not having to read the article.

I'll be 67 in a few days. Yes I know my time is limited & I'll never get all my stuff painted much less played with BUT this is my hobby, not my life. wargaming in all it's facets is low on my priorities. God & family trump gaming each & every time. So worrying about how many games I have left to play in my life is a non-starter for me. After all none of us has been guaranteed tomorrow.

Well this was a lovely way to begin my day. No where did I put that bottle?

This is why I now have the majority of my figures painted by someone else. I don't have the time to both paint and game. In the case of relationships. Most of those bridges have been burned or in some cases nuked a long time ago.

I am 68. I think ZULUPAUL sums it up for me too. It's my hobby. Oh how I love it so; but it is my hobby.

I like painting figures and playing games and I'll stop when I stop.

I have great confidence in the advance of medical science; time to buy more lead.

Well there's a lot calculating and thinking in that article. I think I'll just be sure to enjoy those games I play and miniatures I paint now and not calculate how many games I have left. Besides my goal is to get to 100.
