Received this email today:

Good day. I write you to inform you that my man has carried a bomb (Hexogen) into the building where your business is located. It was built under my direction. It is small and it is covered up very well, it is impossible to destroy the building structure by this explosive device, but if it explodes you will get many wounded people.
My man is controlling the situation around the building. If he sees any strange behavior or policemen he will blow up the bomb.
I want to suggest you a transaction. You pay me $20,000 USD in BTC and the bomb will not explode, but do not try to fool me – I ensure you that I have to withdraw my man only after 3 confirmations in blockchain network.

My payment details (BTC address)- Deleted by Moderator

You have to pay me by the end of the working day. If you are late with the money explosive will explode.
This is just a business, if I do not see the bitcoins and the explosive device explodes, other companies will pay me a lot more, because this isnt a one-time action.
To stay anonimous I wont enter this email account. I check my Bitcoin wallet every 40 min and if I receive the payment I will order my person to get away.

If a bomb detonates and the authorities see this message-
We are not the terrorist society and dont assume responsibility for explosions in other buildings.

Seems too stupid to report to anyone…

Korvessa13 Dec 2018 12:34 p.m. PST

I didn't do it. I was somewhere else.

Winston Smith13 Dec 2018 12:36 p.m. PST

The disclaimer at the end shows that they are serious, covered by good insurance and have lawyers.

I would ask to see their bomb threat license.

I've always wanted to join The Terrorist Society! Can you give me his email?

I would call it on him in a heartbeat.
What you got? Dynamite, C-4, gas firebome? Bring it on.

Or you could try 4+ on a D6 to save.

In all seriousness, have you passed the (hidden) bank details to anyone who deals with these things? You never know….

And, even (especially?) if it is a hoax, it wouldn't do any harm if a tiny, well publicised example was made "pour encourager les autres".

Wackmole913 Dec 2018 1:34 p.m. PST

Damn I know people were upset about being put in the dawghouse on TMP, but this is ridiculous.

Bill, there are too many people who will believe this Bozo. You need to report it to your local FBI office. These idiots do it, because it works -- somebody will believe them. Besides, your local FBI office is looking for work, to keep them busy… ;-) Cheers!

Odd grammar, misspellings, and no apostrophes where they should be. Looks as though you're being threatened by an American college student or recent graduate.

The Police should deal with this. Anyone threatening such actions, no matter how incompetent, should be dealt with by the authorities.

Winston Smith13 Dec 2018 2:08 p.m. PST

Hey, Bill.
You're not all that important.
All the other Cool Kids are getting it too.

I strongly urge you to contact the FBI because this may not be confined to your city or state. As said above, there are also people that will fall for this and get robbed. If the FBI brushes you off try the local law and they will find out whether or not this creep is local or out of state. If out of state then they will try ATF or FBI. Whatever the outcome you at least tried. You do not want to be looking at the News and see were some small business has been bombed and people wounded or killed.

Jesus, hoax or not, report it immediately! What were you thinking, Bill?

hocklermp513 Dec 2018 2:41 p.m. PST

Just saw on CNN this thing is nationwide. Threat is same sent to you. Authorities want to know right away.

Having just finished participating in a active shooter drill at the airport I work at I guess I do not find things like this amusing any more. And yes report it.

microgeorge13 Dec 2018 4:05 p.m. PST

It happened to several schools in the St. Louis area as well. This person is rather inventive. Perhaps the first Bomb Threat mass marketer.

Authorities are probably overwhelmed with people reporting this, he must have sent it out to thousands of people.

IP traces back to the Russian Federation, for what that's worth. The email address, which is possibly hacked, also traces back to the Russian Federation.

hocklermp513 Dec 2018 5:30 p.m. PST

Why, Bill, everyone knows that Russia does not busy itself messing about with the US of A!

BTCTerrainman Supporting Member of TMP13 Dec 2018 5:32 p.m. PST

I honestly have nothing to do with this… or as our Sergeant in Arms says, "I Know Nothing"!

skippy000113 Dec 2018 5:41 p.m. PST

If his bombmaking is as good as his spelling, grammer and sentence structure-the dud rate would be very high.

It is a crime-report it. If it's Russia, it's something we can embarrass Putin with.

jhancock13 Dec 2018 7:36 p.m. PST

Some desperate 19 year old in a Nigerian internet cafe trying to make a buck.

They would be surprised if USSF dropped in to visit at the cafe one day!

Stryderg13 Dec 2018 8:07 p.m. PST

I wouldn't bother reporting it to anyone. The authorities will be swamped with other people's reports and they probably won't have the resources to look into this anyway.

I may be a bit jaded, though, I manage a computer network with a few thousand hosts and have to deal with hundreds of stupid emails daily.

Thresher0113 Dec 2018 10:05 p.m. PST

I blame the educational system for the poor letter.

You should report it, regardless.

Bashytubits13 Dec 2018 11:28 p.m. PST

Yes, it is stupid, yes you absolutely should report it.

Bill, sounds the klaxon, lower lifeboats, announce "Abandon Ship" with a robotic voice over and over and over. Once everyone is safely away, you can announce "This has been a drill. Thank you for your cooperation during the test. You may now return to your screens. If this had been a real emergency, I would have been the first into the lifeboats…leadership has it's perks".

Cerdic14 Dec 2018 1:44 p.m. PST

With the references to "my man" he is clearly an Edwardian English gentleman who has a valet!

Just remember:

If his bombmaking is as good as his spelling, grammer and sentence structure-the dud rate would be very high.

Or he would have blown himself up by now.
