So the latest victrix ancients set, armoured Gauls, has been released.

Figures look great.

But…

30 x 28mm figures for £24.95 GBP?

You can still buy the exceptional Perry plastics at 36-46 figures for just £20.00 GBP

Victrix have gone a bit too Games Workshop? Especially as CAD is cheaper than sculpting?

The Republican Roman cavalry was more than some of their previous offerings, but then again there were 16 figs in the package. I think the price only really comes into play if you need the figs right when they come out. If not, you can usually get them on Ebay for 10-20% off in most cases. Yes, they don't always have everything you need, but I've found some good deals on there every now and then for Victrix items.

At times, however, I don't understand the trend to reinvent the wheel with figures. Every manufacturer has Saxons, Romans, Gauls, etc. It would be interesting to see if they would do sets for Indians, Persians, Aetolians, etc.,as a change of pace.

Is CAD cheaper than traditional sculpting?
Production of steel moulds for plastic figures is certainly more expensive than rubber moulds for metal figures.

You make steel molds for plastic once. How many times do you have to remake rubber molds for metal castings?

Jhancock,

Rubber moulds also last quite a long time and will cost you £60.00 GBP each – a steel mould is £15,000.00 GBP+…..

83p per figure is badly extortionate. Materials prices will have risen because they are petroleum based which are in $ and the £ $ exchange rate has been in the toilet for the last 2 years.
