For rolling vigorously in tight areas and to prevent whacking ones figures. Are there any high quality recommendations which are deep enough and big enough to allow a spirited roll?

Find a cheap plastic dining tray to dimensions you require. Line the tray with glued on baize/felt, and Robert is your mothers' brother!
I found it helps if, when gluing on the felt sheets, you overlap them by about 1/10th of an inch. This creates a slight ridge which makes the dice roll, and avoids the 'skidding' effect.

Oh? I was thinking I could use an alley trash can lid, line it with that green plastic grass that comes with sushi and roll a couple of sugar cubes dotted with a Sharpie.

I didnt ask for the Homeless solution. I asked for a high quality one.

But thank you.

I think you are looking for a 'craps table'.

Minipigs
Just trying to be helpful in the light of experience, but I can now see how you acquired your name.
Unwarranted purile sarcasm is bound to elicit many helpful replies for you. Good luck with that.

How about a tall kitchen garbage can…

Did you mean "puerile"? So, You dont think it was warranted? How dare you suggest a solution that costs more than a dollar!

Especially when I could use a perfectly good, slightly soiled, corrugated cardboard beverage case lid and some moldly bread to line it with for almost free.

Minipigs, your humour is as funny as toothache.

There are a few sources of quality wooden dice trays out there, but the best I've seen are from Dog Might.

This link is for rolling trays:

And this link is for something they call Dragon Trays, which are fully sculpted dice rolling surfaces:

All are custom made with numerous woods and designs to choose from. Top notch and great service.

@ oabee51

It's a good thing you showed up, I didnt think anyone with any merit was going to offer a solution.

Thanks, those look solid, if a bit "Jumanji" but I had already gone with this option. I find it to be quite well designed and I am having a howling good time with it.
