I came across a link to this website of Forum a few days ago: warfarehistorynetwork.com that's "//warfarehistorynetwork.com" in case this just says "link". Sorry, I can't find the original post I found this link in. The site does what it says on the tin. BUT, after a while of browsing, I got an interrupt message about "Your windows is out-of-date; click here to update; nasty threat, etc" Unsure if this is: 1 a spoof message on the site to discourage guest browsing 2 an indicator that the website is insecure, therefore a warning shot 3 a real virus/attack Whatever, I found this to be a real pain, and thought I would share my experience. |

If there are ads in the margins, typically the nastiness is coming through them. |

It is a scam. I would recommend you ignore it. In fact I would stay away from that website. |

When I get those warnings, especially when I can't just close them, I reboot and as Rallynow said, don't go back. |

It may not be the fault of the site, but their advertisement provider. Every few months or so one of my regular websites— sometimes even a major commercial news site— will generate a pop-up window that offers a prize or some other "click now" suggestion. Invariably, these windows fill the entire browser window, ghosting over the background, and offering a choice to accept the proposal or cancel/ignore it. I know better than to click on either option (both are lies). The only way out is to close down the tab or the window entirely. If I go back, the same action (usually an article click) typically generates the window again. So if I need to see the site that day, I turn off JavaScript, which is how these malicious "ads" function, and they don't appear again. Usually after a few hours it's safe to turn JS back on. This, by the way, is another reason why I despise JavaScript. And on-line ad providers. Grrrrr. |

By the way, if the site does appear to be a good information site on the topic, I think that's probably evidence that the site itself is not malicious. A crook's not going to waste time building a military history site when he can get more visitors/victims with slap-dash pictures of cats. |
