Zzzz. Been there. As time marches on, even the South starts to automate. The question becomes, "What to do with all the slaves when it is no longer economically viable to feed or hose them?" |

I have it – some of the scenarios are more plausible than others A great read is The Confederate States of America by Ransom – it explores things like what a post-war Confederate economy would look like, bearing in mind things like mwindsorfw's insightful observation that manufacturing progress would trump slavery fairly quickly |
