Makes you wonder what happened to them all after the Roman conquest. Were they all just quietly disposed of in the back garden or was there a collectors market for such things that kept them in circulation for awhile.

My go-to standard for "barbarian" armies in my Ancients gaming days was a head on a spear. Preferably Roman.

– You mean, they played football with them??!

Incidentally, the C3 BC Gallic site of Ribemont-sur-Ancre contained the remains of over 1,500 corpses, 500 of which had been actually propped up in ranks with their armour and weapons as a gruesome trophy. No sign of the skulls…
