The Navy needs new patrol coastal ships (PCs), but buying more of the Cyclone -class will not meet the requirement of a PC for today's threat environment. With the already-extended service life of the Cyclone -class coming to an end between 2020 and 2025, the Navy should leverage the expertise of our NATO allies in coastal warfare and purchase a modified version of Germany's Gepard -class (German for "cheetah") PCs… link |

A waste of time and money. Every time the USN builds a coastal ship class the admirals dump it. Check it out USS Asheville PGM-84 USS Pegasus PHM-1 USS Cyclone PC-1 The LCS do seem to find favour with the Admirals. I guess they cost enough and are more useless. |

Or get them more chances for a private job after they leave the service. That is what it is really about. |

Sweden makes decent corvettes also. I wouldn't even go with the newer Visby class vessels, the older Goteborg class is perfect for the mission at hand and the Swedes have two for sale the last time I looked. Lease those and run them off of Somalia, while we spin up production here for a couple dozen hulls. Cancel further LCS procurement and focus on a true frigate design based on the USCG Berthold class cutter hull. |

I liked the Pegasus. Got to visit her once in Key West. Too bad she didn't leave the dock when I was there… |

I liked the Pegasus. I, too. Carried the SSM armament of an early model Spruance DD and fast as hell. |
