13 or 14 in '73 or '74. There was a guy selling wargames and minis in a flea market somewhere near Detroit. Bought GHQ Tiger Is (still have them) and Wooden Ships & Iron Men, the Battleline version, which I also still have. If I remember right his name is Robin Miller, definitely Robin. |

As distinct from playing with toy soldiers? 16. I'd been board gaming since I was 12, but 16 was when my older board gaming mates broke into the local CLS group and took me with them. 1969. |

16. I was into RPG's in high school and a friend of my brother brought me to a wargaming club that played D&D (with figures!). They also played Chainmail and Tractics. RPG guys who would join WWII games to flesh out the sides often got free beer from the slightly older historical members. Never left. |

Age 12 1966. Read an article in a magazine, then discovered and bought Morchausers book. I have two worn copies and they are still among my prized possessions. Shortly after bought some figs from Jack Scruby, mail order. I can still remember opening the box and poking around the sawdust for my figures! Great memories! |

I discovered that grown-ups play with toy soldiers back in third grade when I ran into my first Featherstone book in the school library. Prior to that, I happily played with my soldiers, not knowing I was participating in a hobby. |

Played with toy soldiers (Airfix, Marx and Britains plastic) from early grade school. Was playing Avalon Hill board games about age 11. Read "Wargamers Digest" magazine at about 13, really wanted to do miniatures, but seemed out of my price range. Started using lead minis for D&D about age 13-14. Age 20 bought 4 15mm armies (Norman, Viking, Late Roman, Hun) at an Origins Con. Painted them and played for a couple of years. After a longish gap, started going to HMGS cons and buying tons of lead about age 35. I generally buy historical, but use them for various RPG campaigns, with a few historical games per year. |
