If you did, congratulations you are a military history aficionado. If not, don't despair let us introduce you to I-400 class submarine. The idea was to provide a ship with the potential to raid the American coastline during the war. With a fleet of 18 planned they were the brainchild of none another that Admiral Yamamoto. The only problem was that the ones that were launched could only carry 3 aircraft each. The last plan was to use them on the Panama Canal but even if successful it would only disable the canal for a few weeks (American secret weapon was a barrier that could be raised to block the loss of water and allow the locks to be repaired). After one surprise raid radar land and air based would identify where the aircraft came from and then the submarine "fleet" would not last long. |
