Revisited the stunning Royal Armouries in Leeds on Monday. Here's a blog post link about the Civil War gallery.

Plus there is a link to a YouTube presentation about their collection for those of you not in travelling distance.
No elks though. Or even undead looking ones. At all.

How far from London is Leeds? A day trip or more than that?

It's about 200 miles each way. 2 hours twenty on the train. So yes, you could 'do' it in a day, but a very long tiring day.

Flying is in theory much quicker, but by the time you have factored in getting to and from airports, it would take much longer.

Driving, you are talking nearly 4 hours each way.

Thanks very much. Train might be possible like you say a long day. I don't think I would fly. Thank you!!

If you decide to stay over in Leeds, I'd recommend the hotel at 42 The Calls. Funny name but a very nice, modern hotel in old warehouse buildings on the Aire. Haven't been there for a while but remember it fondly. 42thecallshotel.com

Would recommend the train over driving. Leeds is a pain to drive around, though the Armouries are reasonably well signposted. Also parking is nearly as expensive as London. Leeds station is only about 10 – 15 mins walk from the Armouries, or there is a free water taxi that takes you straight there along with a commentary on the history of the area.
