….End of 2020.

"China's plan to judge each of its 1.3 billion people based on their social behavior is moving a step closer to reality, with Beijing set to adopt a lifelong points program by 2021 that assigns personalized ratings for each resident.

The capital city will pool data from several departments to reward and punish some 22 million citizens based on their actions and reputations by the end of 2020, according to a plan posted on the Beijing municipal government's website on Monday. Those with better so-called social credit will get "green channel" benefits while those who violate laws will find life more difficult.

The Beijing project will improve blacklist systems so that those deemed untrustworthy will be "unable to move even a single step," according to the government's plan. Xinhua reported on the proposal Tuesday, while the report posted on the municipal government's website is dated July 18…."

Gotta love total government control……………….or NOT!

Wonder when they'll start micro-chipping them to make tracking easier, like some companies here in the West are doing to their employees?

Yep, your conclusion is correct Armand, and many US companies are falling over each other to help them set this up, and to censor media content and the internet. They're evil too, despite their loud assertions to the contrary.

What could possibly go wrong with such a well-intentioned plan?

Political correctness is the first step down that path.

The only thing that keeps the US government "honest" and correct towards its people are the vast number of guns here.

My husband served in Afghanistan, and we have 3 AK-74 pattern rifles in our home, and plenty of ammo. No one can take those from us.

Tgunner25 Nov 2018 9:02 a.m. PST

Indeed. The government means well! It wants to reward good behavior and punish bad behavior. Isn't this all for the public good????

What could possibly be wrong with this wonderful idea???????

Basically Beijing are setting themselves up to create a social and economic underclass. No doubt they are assuming this kind of project will drive people to conform. ROFL. Pretty much anyone who's read any dystopian social fiction will know how this kind of thing tends to end!

DS = SJW?

Thresher0125 Nov 2018 4:07 p.m. PST

Yep, which is why 80% of Americans are now against P.C., according to a recent poll.

Shows what happens when government gets too large and powerful.

Yep, jhancock for the win!

A pity Western CEOs, Execs, and our politicians are trying to elbow each other out of the way to be first in line to assist the Red Chinese Communists.

They all envy that amount of control and want to emulate it.

Yes it is. And it is how communism/socialism always goes. Just look at Russia, North Korea, Vietnam, Cambodia, Venezuela, Zaire, Congo, etc, etc, etc….

The scary thing (for westerners at least) is, social engineering may actually work in China because despite "westernization" via cultural and pop-cultural influences, the "Han" Chinese are by nature and historically conformist and non-individualist. At a very young age, the Chinese are programmed (that is, "taught") to respect elders and authority, and to repress one's own needs for – as the Tau would say – the Greater Good and harmony of the whole group. Approval from authority and peer pressure mean much more to the typical Chinese than to a westerner. Indeed, the Chinese prefer a central authority to impose order in society. It's part of their cultural identity.

Part of me wonders if China has missed the window where they could have truly had a Democratic enlightenment.

With their population levels as they are, and the simple fact that they don't have the resources needed for those levels, one could argue that their only hope for even mid-term survival is a very carefully planned and controlled economy and populace.

It's not like it hasn't been done before. The one child policy being a prime example.

Central planning of, well, almost everything has been a part of Chinese culture since there was a China. 2200 years.
