I was lucky to get a new starter set of Great Escape Games 1914 rules and miniatures. I also bought some models by Kallistra. 1914 uses and has included 5*2,5cm (2"*1") bases, Kallistra has 4*2cm bases.
At the moment i cant decide, what is better. On one hand i like bigger bases, because they are better to handle. On the other hand with 4 models per base, the smaller bases are big enough.
So, i would be interested in some opinions. What would you prefer (and why)? What base size is better, if i want to play other rules? (At the moment i could think of Great War Spearhead, but who knows, what the future brings.)

I think it's down to personal choice. When I gamed in 10/12mm, I placed 5 figs on a 25x50mm base.

I use 30x20 and get 4 10mm figures on easily, Kallistra are bigger figures so 40x20 may be safer. Personally I think early WW1 bases should be fairly well populated unless they are for skirmish games.

Great War Spearhead typically uses 1.25" x 1.25" (30 x 30mm) bases. Each base represents an infantry company or equivalent. Four 6mm figures per base works really well. Early war is no different. It is the number of stands that gives the overall impact, rather than the number of figures per base IMHO. I originally went with the 4 figures because I wanted to get as many stands painted up as possible for the huge replay we did of the Battle of the Marne. I had wanted more figures per stand but, once I saw the overall visual impact, I have never gone back.
