"A new bombshell report based on a secret trove of seized Iranian nuclear documents shows the Islamic Republic had concrete plans to manufacture and build at least five nuclear weapons and that it was much further along in this scheme than previously known by the international community. Iran's contested nuclear weapons program was much further along than the international community thought, according to a report based on scores of secret Iranian plans seized by Israel and publicly disclosed for the first time earlier this year. Information obtained in this raid on Iran's secretive nuclear files has revealed that Tehran was well along the path to building several nuclear weapons by around 2003, including the complex infrastructure needed to produce such weapons, according to a new report from the Institute for Science and International Society, a nuclear watchdog group that has exposed in the past the extent of Iran's nuclear works…." They've already got some, but I suspect we don't know how many, just like NK. This shouldn't be surprising since for a couple of decades now, we've been told by "the analysts" that Iran could build a nuke in 6 months to 2 years. Sadly, many in "the international community" have downplayed the threat for several decades too, and it is a fait accompli. They've reportedly got between 60 – 120 in North Korea. My guess it's more towards the larger number than the smaller one there. |

What is this "had" plans nonsense? If they don't have nukes yet, they'd be fools to not have plans to make some! |

I'm sure they're just for "fun" Armand. They probably feel left out, and want to emulate what the Russians and North Koreans do to help us celebrate our Independence day festivities, like sending Russian long-range bombers that can carry nuke warheads close to our shores, or firing off ballistic missiles for a really big bang, over our Japanese ally's islands, like the North Koreans seem to prefer to do. |

The only country to voluntarily give up its nukes was South Africa, and that would not have happened if not for Apartheid. |

@28mm: No, the Ukraine gave up all their Soviet-era nukes in exchange for territorial guarantees from the US and Russia. Sadly, the Crimea mess has shown that if you have nukes, you get away with things. And probably made most every mid-size nation (big economy but no nukes) want nukes. |

Forgot about Ukraine. Yeah, it was voluntary but due to economic woes Ukraine also allowed her conventional forces to wither so it's entirely possible they would have given up the aging Soviet-era nukes anyway rather than spend the money to maintain and modernize them. At the time Russia was weak and posed no threat, and NATO wasn't expanding eastward so it's easy to see why they made that decision. |
