Ah, yeah, that big 240mm mortar. Quite the beast!

I don't see the US building any 240mm mortars or howitzers ever again. Too big and slow-firing for modern US warfare theory.

If we need a boom that big we'd use MLRS or ATACMs.

I remember reading somewhere (probably a second Iraq war book) that those platforms are being nicknamed "grid square removal systems" by the troops in the field …
