I just put up a post on my blog about a new mini-project: The Cod Wars between the UK and Iceland. What's that all about? Come to the blog and see! link I'm not any good at posting photos here, or I'd give you a sneak peek at the Shapeways minis. |

Nice timing. I am painting the last couple of the Shapeways trawlers as we speak. |

An excellent choice of rules and models :) |

Vsb, Oh, that's nice to know! What did you do to prep the models before you painted them? I'm thinking of doing the scrub with Simple Green and Dawn before I paint them. DM, I thought you might approve sir! I'm also getting models together so that I can spring a "Save the Whale" game on them in the future. No one ever said that naval wargames have to have shooting in them. Thanks to you for showing me that. |

Well done. I've just started painting up a few of these myself and am looking forward to trying the rules. What models are you thinking about for "Save the Whale"? |

Played a game a few weeks ago. Still have some of the ships to paint, but we definitely plan on playing again. It was a lot of fun. Brits won with the only points earned in the game for fishing. I think they had 10 points. Icelanders could never connect with the trawl hook. |

I just wash them in soapy water and prime them when dry.

colkitto: For the whaling ships, I'm using some of the old Triang-Minic minis that I found for fairly cheap. All of them will need to be worked on and repainted, but that shouldn't be too hard. As for the protest ships, I haven't decided yet. Shapeways makes a couple of Greenpeace ships, or I might go with those or modify a trawler for the original Rainbow Warrior. As for the Zodiac boats, I may have to scratchbuild them for 1/1200 scale. Sundance: It does sound like it was a fun game. Would you mind doing a little writeup for here to tell everyone how it went? Vsb: That is a pretty Lloydsman! Did you make the hull black, or a dark blue? I'm not sure which is correct. Also, where did you get your painting information? I've spend I don't know how much time looking for photos. |

Bravo Sir! Leanders were always my favourite RN ships so I really ought to give CW a go – but I already have too many projects! |

We had our first game a couple of weeks ago and the Icelanders couldn't miss. Still trying to work out how the tv crew event card works. |

My take on that card is that if you play it, any point scoring event (see page 30) that happens within 4 hexes/8 inches of the playing vessel is doubled. So, if you are running an ICGV, you play the card and a trawler has to withdraw within the set distance you get -10 points instead of -5. However, if another ICG player rammed a trawler within 4 hexes of you after the card was played, then the British would score +10 points instead of +5. So it's a bit of a double-edged sword. |

That sounds reasonable thanks. |

Didn't know Triang made whale ships, but I googled it and was delighted to find that they also made actual _whales_! |

docfin, Happy to be of assistance. colkitto, Yeah they do. I bought one rather than try and scratchbuild it, and at first I thought it was rather small. When you measure it though, it's 16mm long, which would be 64-67 feet in length. That would make it a right whale or a sperm whale. |

Bokashi Jones, Yes, the Leander is pretty much the RN ship for that period. It's still what I think of when I think of the Cold War Royal Navy. |
