This is also pretty entertaining. Not sure how accurate it is or what the motivation of the originator's was but for wargamers, it's.. biscuit coffee watch…. YouTube link |

Great looking figures. You mention that 1st battle of Mohacs as possibility for these figures. I am curious what others posters like Puster think. |

For non armoured Janissaries the clothing style and equipment remained largely unchanged for centuries. Bearing in mind full dress uniform looks nice for wargaming but was unlikely to have been worn in battle. Ottoman campaign clothing was practical and loose fitting. There would undoubtedly have been a much higher proportion of bows and probably heavy pole weapons at Mohacs than in later centuries but the basic musket shape changed very little. Two interesting research papers exist based on Ottoman primary source material and offer compelling evidence that Janissary infantry used volley fire at 1st Mohacs. Other evidence exists that they regularly used this technique both in training and on the battlefield at least at the same time as, if not before the Dutch/Imperialists circa 1600. I am sure a few people will be reaching for their books right now. Happy to supply the references for anyone remotely interested. |
