I have a round table that when the leaf is put in I can get a 4x3 table. If I had the room to just slap a 4x4 pice of plywood on there I would, but the wife agro isn't worth it. Is there a multi-folding option out there? It would be nice to utilize the full 4x4. I was thinking of something like a board game that folds out to a larger map, but I have no idea where to look. Thanks |

Folding Gaming boards link There is a 4x4 board that folds in half and another that folds in quarters. |

Thanks Thomas…I'll check them out. |

2.5' x 6' folding tables. 2 side by side gives you 5' x 6'. Some, even fold in half, so are 2.5' x 3', though thicker, obviously. They're convenient for storing in closets, and even fit in small cars, unlike their larger brethren. They usually run about $40 USD – $50 USD this time of year, at Walmart, etc.. 2.5' x 6' will fit nicely behind the couch, or under the bed, in many cases. If you really only want to go 4' x 4', tough it out, and put a blanket on top of the table to protect it from damage. Then, the wife really won't have that to complain about, so she'll have to come up with something else. No doubt, she'll succeed. |

I'd go that route, but we don't have the space for folding tables. It's really that tight in our condo :) Thanks for the suggestions though. |

Thomas do you have one of those folding tables? They look interesting but I would like to hear some first hand experience. thanks. |

I might go this route link |

FusilerDan, Sorry, I do not have one of their folding boards. I do have a couple of their terrain packs, such as the hills one. And they have lasted for 15+ years of abuse. They are made of foam and have take some damage due to sharp things hitting them. The flock covering the top has yet to come off though. |

The DIY route is always an option. Prior to having a ton of space, I tried making my own folding board. I did it a very similar way. My taped hinge only lasted a short couple of years. |

The "Big Boxes" sell pre-cut plywood. Two 2'x4' pieces. 3/8 inch should do (maybe 1/2"). Some sort of hinge will make them more stable. This is 2'x4'x<1" (less than one inch thick) folded and stood against the wall behind (or under) the sofa. I prefer flanel to felt. Fabric stores cut it to length from a 5 foot wide roll. Get four feet; a green piece, and a tan piece; or maybe a camo piece and a blue piece. The unused one goes on the table top for protection (or buy her a table cloth). Folds up and goes under the sofa too. Unless it's being used as a lap robe. Or just paint both sides and get the table cloth. |

Sorry to hear that won't work. When I was younger, I used to game on my bed. Throw a green piece of felt or blanket across it, and you've got lots of space for gaming. Even more if you remove the pillows first. |

Thomas thanks, captaincold69 that pink foam also comes in 2' x 2' sections. I wonder if gluing cloth to the board would last longer than tape? |

The duck tape option allows you just throw whatever color cloth you want on. Green for Western/Eastern Front, white for winter and tan for desert. Worst case scenario is replacing the tape every so often. |

captaincold69: I have a couple of the Walmart folding tables. @ $35 USD each, they are @ 3 inches thick when folded. Strong enough for wargames, light enough to easily move and put up by my self and less awkward than a 4x4 panel. Wargames (and wargamers!) need some space, even if it is to just move around the table. |

I get the folding tables, but I have no place to set up those folding tables. The wife and I sold our house and downsized to a 1bd condo :) |

Trunk of a car, or behind the seat of a truck? |

@ FusilierDan : I have two of those Warzone Folding board tops and they work great. Have had both of them for 10+ years or more and we use them for all of our minis war gaming. They are sturdy enough for serious WH40k Apocalypse gaming to small Pulp Alley games and everything in between. Our experience is similar to Thomas Wittens' above for durability. |

I have an old set of folding dining table pads which I use for the same purpose. They're stiff, with vinyl on one side and green felt on the other. They're meant to protect a wood tabletop from scratches, etc., and to be placed under a tablecloth. New ones are pricey, but you might find some used on eBay or at a thrift store (ours are hand-me-downs from my wife's grandmother). |
