then you have to store them, in between games of course, and they take up more room.

A box box of unpainted Perry AWI infantry takes up 70 cubic cm. Painted, marching pose, takes up 96 cubic cm. Add a standard, 168 cubic cm. Firing figures, 108 cubic cm.

I had a small cabinet filled with unpainted lead now I've a bookcase filled with boxes of painted lead and I need another.

Bill's over there talking about consolidating TMP link
Monkey Hanger has me taking a pledge TMP link
and I'm running out of room.

I don't have any issues with storing them.

My issue is prepping them to remove all the molds lines, and other casting issues. I hate having to do that.

Go Modern. Tanks take up less room once they have been assembled and painted.

Titchmonster19 Nov 2018 10:28 p.m. PST

I agree. When in a blister or baggie you can store a ton. once you've finished them its another story.

My only problem is that there are so many of them…

Having more painted figures than unpainted sounds like a good problem to me. I'll find somewhere for them.

I do not believe in The Pledge. ‘Nuff said about that distasteful subject.

Worth remembering they take up even more space while being painted and based. I keep getting caught there. But certainly I've created enough trouble for myself by not thinking about storage space and playing area.

There is, of course, always the flea market.

I have hit that spot where I have serious storage issues – SYW armies in 28m can take up a lot of room

My problem with painting figures is painting figures.

arthur181520 Nov 2018 6:20 a.m. PST

Mine too, 79thPA, so I pay someone else to do it!

My problem with painting figures is that no matter how many I paint Ive always got more figures left that need painting…it never ends I tells ye!

Try playing with 54mm figures -- Army Men figures, in my case. Each figure is based on a 2"-square, textured. Storage issues aside, I LOVE seeing them covering multiple tables, filling a 20' x 40' shop… I wish I could solve my storage issue by leaving them on the 20' x 40' gaming table, permanently. Unfortunately, life gets in the way of fun… Cheers!

My problem is that the cat wants to "help".

My basement has room….😉

After my AWI project I swore I would never do another period in 28mm. That lasted three years. Now my so called friends have tricked me into buying 28mm figures for Bolt Action. World War II isn't even one of my periods. Where am I going to store them?

Old Contemptibles21 Nov 2018 3:28 a.m. PST

I sold off my painted 28mm WWI figures because I decided it was crazy to do WWI in 28mm, so I am switching to 15mm. So now I am doing the Second World War in 28mm! Why am I doing this?

Old Contemptibles21 Nov 2018 3:31 a.m. PST

A few years ago I started making large hills for my 28mm Boer War games. I made quite a few and they turned out nice.
But once again where am I going to store them. I would love to start making terrain boards for specific battles but I have no place to store them. So much for that.

UshCha21 Nov 2018 4:34 a.m. PST

IT'S SOOOOO BORING!!! and it wastes gaming time, but basic white or Grey or even worse Vomit Yellow models (well it was a really cheap reel) just do not look good on green terrain so a bit of colour is a necessity, unfortunately.

Bowman21 Nov 2018 6:06 a.m. PST

Storing the painted figures isn't a problem for me…..even with 28mm. The biggest storage problems are with the terrain. The storage difference between painted and unpainted figures is negligible in comparison.

Zeelow22 Nov 2018 7:37 a.m. PST

They do not stand still!!

Fitzovich Supporting Member of TMP14 Dec 2018 4:22 a.m. PST

This is a huge reason I collect and game in 6mm. I prefer paper whenever possible to avoid painting. Costs are less and storage is likewise less of a problem.

Anton Ryzbak20 Dec 2018 6:30 p.m. PST

Biggest problem is getting them from box to base….

….as far as storage goes, my issue is that I build nutty stuff like 1/50th scale models of real fortifications
