The "Two Marshals" blog run by Alan Millicheap is always worth a look as it is full of creative ideas. His latest one was to take a Boer War scenario, Colenso, and disguise it as a Russo-Japanese War action, "Ko-lin-zo". The players were completely fooled, which is not so surprising; but when he explained the scenario situation and special rules at the start of the game, both sides were bitterly complaining – the Boers aka Cossacks about how few troops they had for such a long front, and the Brits aka Japanese about how difficult it would be to kill the Cossacks even if they could be spotted. Any game that has both teams feeling they face an unfairly difficult challenge is doing something right.

I disguised Froeschweiler as 1864 Missouri for an ACW battle set around Sterling Prices attempt to take St. Louis. Always fun to see the players not being able to G-2 a battle before it is played.
