Very nice – it is now on my Christmas list!!!

Went to the website and didn't see anything about a German set. Where do they list new stuff.

Damion17 Nov 2018 2:51 p.m. PST

They list new stuff on social media like twitter and facebook. I think they have a link to these on their site but should really have a news section for such on their site.

Not sure about the guy with random fur tied about his waist and lower legs and does anyone have a contemporary source for that topknot? I know the suebian knot is well attested but the topknot I'm unsure about. I would also expect some long loose hair or perhaps plaits.

While I'm grumbling, I'd also like Victrix to include some younger faces for their Celts and Germans, these guys all have very lined faces.

link you'll find it here.

tigrifsgt17 Nov 2018 3:33 p.m. PST

So do these guys come out after the Vikings, Saxons, and Normans, or are they slotted in between one of these?

I am pretty sure the ancient barbarian Gauls and Germans had very strict regs concerning clothing and hair styles written into their enlistment requirements ????

I will certainly add a few boxes to my Germanic army,I like the poses much better than the over dramatic Warlord figures.

Nice minis…

They will surely not be available for THIS christmas, but once they arrive…

Currently building the Republican Roman cavalry, and waiting for the Vikings. Its good to have Victrix around, for both the niche (like Roman cavalry) and variety (as in Romans & Vikings)

Characterful and fierce looking. Great figures.

Alas, I do neither twitter nor facebook. Just have to wait until they pop up on the website.

Tango0119 Nov 2018 11:21 a.m. PST

Glad you like them too guys!.

Old Glory, cultural norms ensured that people wore certain clothes or hairstyles. Random nonsense on minis based on Conan comics is disappointing for otherwise well crafted minis.

Anyway, having finally got some Vitrix Celts, I'm pleased that the heads are fairly interchangeable with Warlord Games figures, it'll make blending them in easier.

I suspect that hairstyles, clothing , etc has and will always have a huge amount of variables just as today. Any teensger, or for that fact, any person on the streets of Los Angeles will not universally be the same or follow the norm.
I suppose every single Viking that lived had a beard??

colin knight19 Nov 2018 3:38 p.m. PST

Old Glory. Excellent point. My son is 15 and refuses to believe his new haircut is very similar to Henry V.

JC Lira20 Nov 2018 4:09 a.m. PST

One of those men is holding his falchion wrong, I think. The cutting edge is more or less turned toward his body.

hey, Old Glory, since hairstyles will always have a huge amount of variables, would you be happy for your Germanic tribesmen to have a mohawk, a high top fade, or a Flock of Seagulls do? damoin just wants his miniatures to look like what historical clues tell us they looked like. "Every single viking who lived had a beard" is reductio ad absurdum.

Old Glory Sponsoring Member of TMP20 Nov 2018 8:08 a.m. PST

These figures have none of those hairstyles so your comment
Makes no sense???
All have long hair and/or some type of of pony Knot type hair style -- all styles that I think appear perfectly Germanic.
Oddly enough, my grandson has a mowhawk at this time -- here in 2018!!
Did every German that ever lived then have a beard, a moustache?
Plenty of Males do not even have any facial hair.
All silly.

Damion20 Nov 2018 12:11 p.m. PST

JC Lira, I think that "falchion" is meant to be a seax type weapon. There is also the sica which had the blade on the inside like a kukri.

Outside of the imaginations of 19th century art, there really isn't anything Germanic about a top knot if it didn't exist amongst the actual ancient Germans. It's like horns on viking helmets which originate from the same 19th century sources. I'm not saying they didn't exist, but I recently tried to find some evidence for the top knot and didn't find anything. Maybe there is something in Tacitus' Germania.

Emperorbaz24 Nov 2018 6:02 a.m. PST

Re the top knot. Some Germanic skulls have been recovered with hair tied in such a knot. Evidence is there but it doesn't mean everyone did it. I'm sure there would have been styles in fashion. It's a human thing.

Damion24 Nov 2018 2:42 p.m. PST

Emperorbaz, I believe those skulls have Swabian/Suebian knots, though I'd love some evidence to show the topknot too.
