…., Hit Enemies Instantly.

"As attacking enemies appear and vanish in seconds from around corners, rocks and trees – armed US soldiers in Close Quarter Combat often have little or no time to respond, while their lives often hang in the balance.

As a way to address this, the Army has leveraged wireless networking technology to give soldiers a distinct advantage; a new system connecting night vision goggles with rifle targeting sights will arrive in a matter of months, enabling soldiers to fire around corners and hit enemies instantly, without having to "shoulder" their weapon.

"You see this gray circle in your night vision goggles, with a red dot …. no matter where your weapon is," Brig. Gen. Tony Potts, Program Executive Officer, PEO Soldier, told Warrior Maven…."

Sounds great, until the enemy figures out how to jam that.

Supposedly, the Chinese and Russians have deployed GPS jammers on a widespread basis, already, to try to thwart our cruise missiles, and other weapons.

How do you confirm a heat signature is enemy vs. friend?

And the Germans solved the problem in the 1940's by strapping a bent length of worn out MG barrel to the end of their assault rifle along with a mirror.

Gizmo, shmizmo.

Stick to the simple and reliable.
If they're popping in and out from a corner then they aren't really going to achieve much.
If they're safe behind a tree then you need to have a word with those chaps sold you a teeny weeny rat shootin bullet.
Get yerself some 7.62.
Then you can shoot through that tree or wall.
Maybe just a grenade.

1944 my friend….

"…Seeking to enhance the propaganda value of the new weapon, Hitler ordered it re-designated StG44 (Assault Rifle, Model 1944), giving the rifle its own class. Production soon began with the first batches of the new rifle being shipped to troops on the Eastern Front. A total of 425,977 StG44s were produced by the end of the war and work had commenced on a follow-on rifle, the StG45. Among the attachments available for the StG44 was the Krummlauf, a bent barrel that permitted firing around corners. These were most commonly made with 30° and 45° bends…."
