It's been a long time since we've seen anything from Mongoose Publishing and here's a campaign that will allow you to play fights aboard 28mm spacecraft during the fifth age. Here, the Imperial Marines will not have to shoot some Genestealers but Zhodanis, or Aslans which are a race of interstellar kitties.

Oooh, Traveler Universe! Interesting find, Armand!

Sadly, I'm sure that the Vargr and Aslan will put some people off because 'furries'. Idjits.

Interesting.

I think I prefer the Zho figures.

The poses of the Imps remind me of Japanese teppo gunners from the Samurai period, due to their knealing, and long rifles, I suspect, as well as their Samurai-esque helmets.

I'll probably back it but I'm not really thrilled with the sculpts. Imperial helmets are tear drop shaped with the point in the back. Still, I've been wanting something like this for around 40 years.

Pretty cool. Too bad they're going for "heroic 28mm", which will make them too big for the classic 25mm Grenadier Traveller miniatures (notably Imperial Marines in battle dress) or 25mm Denizen Ventaurans as Zhodani.

Aslan and Vargr boarding parties should at least be wearing vacc suits, if not combat armor or battle dress. Many Vargr and Aslan states of the Fifth Frontier War period have the technology for powered armor.

If I recall correctly, Zhodani infantry doctrine calls for squads of 10 troopers and 3 warbots, not 14 and 2, but Zhodani ship's troops may have a different TOE than ground-pounding line infantry.

I would have kept the distinctive helmets of the Imperial Marines:

Boarding actions are actually quite rare under any of the Traveller space combat rules, which require that the target ship be unable to maneuver or fire. By the time you're rendered the target ship unable to maneuver or fire, it's probably completely destroyed anyway -- not that has stopped me from running and playing in many boarding actions since I started playing Traveller in the 1970s.

Hmm, Azhanti high Lightning was in 15mm (as that would allow them to use less paper, plus there were actually 15mm Traveller figures at the time).

That is interesting….I've been working towards something similar for years now. Not Traveller specifically, but I've been building up game boards from multiple boxes of Sedition Wars with some Star Saga, Project Pandora and Space Hulk. I've a 140 strong Mantic GCPS company (with Maelstrom Edge Droids in support) and 125 strong Beyond the Gates of Antares Algoryn Company as the opponent. I may even put the project all together at some point.

Lion, when the idjits actually show up you might show some concern, until then you are probabably straw man building.

I wish the RAFM Traveller stuff was 25mm. I suppose a 15mm Droyne could work as a sport among Grenadier 25mm Droyne warriors. The Vargr (I think I have that set in my unpainted 15mm box) are too small to use with 25mm figures, except as juveniles, and that could be an interesting scenario.

I'd be interested if it was coming from a different publisher – one that has a far better track record with miniatures production and delivery than the one that will be putting this on offer.

Guys, its Mongoose we're talking about here. No freaking way am I giving them any of my money.

GypsyComet19 Nov 2018 8:06 p.m. PST

And at this point they aren't going to take it. The campaign was cancelled today.

I guess it *really* should have been a 15mm game. I know it was pitched that way originally, and grew in development.

I got a kick out of reading this at the bottom of the KS page:

This company is highly reliable and consistently produces good work on time.

I wonder if the 2000AD backers, who have yet to receive a printed rule book 5 years after the end of the KS campaign, or the Judge Dredd backers – who had to wait up to 5 years for the balance of their miniatures – have any commentary to make about that statement.
