If you can marry a hologram, I guess there's nothing stopping you from marrying your favorite mini! evil grin

Wait, what?

William Gibson predicted this would eventually happen back in 1996 in his novel Iodou

They have a female shortage in Japan?

Glengarry514 Nov 2018 8:44 p.m. PST

Here's a thought, in the future will tabletop miniatures be replaced by hologram "miniature figures'?

Stryderg14 Nov 2018 8:47 p.m. PST

RE: female shortage in Japan:
Nah, it's just easier to turn off a hologram when they don't want to fix you a sandwich. Much more difficult to deal with an actual person (and more rewarding, too, if both people want it to work). Wait, can a hologram fix you a sandwich?

RE: holographic minis:
Yes, and they will all be "pro painted" and look MUCH nicer than the paint jobs I can do.

Syrinx014 Nov 2018 9:09 p.m. PST

The holographic miniatures could come unpainted and require you to paint in photoshop the color scheme.

She'd better be rich, 'cause I sure don't have the money for something like that…

Thresher0115 Nov 2018 12:45 a.m. PST

Not gonna happen, at least with me.

In my state, she can demand 50% of my money, and you know a hacker and corrupt lawyer will team up to try to take advantage of that, in this crazy, litigious state, where common sense and the law don't go hand in hand, so…….

You can "Marry" a Ham Sandwich if you want to – the important part of the whole story is the lack of any mention of state recognition.

Toy Soldier, the Japanese sex ratio is normal, but they have a catastrophic shortage of women interested in being married. TFR is about 2/3 of replacement, and Japan leads the world in research on sexbots.

Holograms won't fix any of this, of course.

So, either way, you gotta make your own damn sammich.

"So, either way, you gotta make your own damn sammich".

Perhaps not.

If she's linked to the real world, or has one of those silly boxes/cylinders that can do stuff via voice command, you can have "her" order you one via Uber Delivery. ;-)
