I never gave much thought to the lyrics in Dixie until my 5 year old asked me "Why are they saying 'Look away'". Any ideas as to why the wording is "look away"? |

Thank you. While I did review the link from before my only though being that no reference has been given. Is this speculation versus fact? |

It wasn't really about looking away, rather it was about a state's right to look away or not to look away if it so chose, regardless of whether the Federal government wanted it to look away or, indeed, had any power to force it to look away. ;^D |

Thank you 22ndFoot. So could one say that "Look away, look away look away, Dixie's Land!" means Federalists do not look at the Confederate states as yours? |

You could but I doubt it was anything more than what worked in the song. I was joking. |

"Look Away" in the context of the song refers to seeing it from afar as if one was homesick or perhaps with a fond memory. |

Someone asks a legitimate question to be met with some form of humorless humor. Ha ha. |

Agree with Morning Scout. The is clear that this is a soutenwr who wishes he was back home and he's "looking away" from his surroundings to think of being back home |
