…. Yemeni City Of Hodeidah.

"Street battles raged on Sunday in residential areas of Yemen's main port city of Hodeidah, forcing medical staff to flee the largest hospital, as Houthi insurgents tried to repel forces backed by a Saudi-led coalition.

Residents said they saw bodies of seven civilians killed in clashes in southern suburbs, with both sides using mortar shells, anti-aircraft guns and assault rifles in the fight for the Houthi-held city, a lifeline for millions of Yemenis.

The coalition has renewed its offensive on Hodeidah as Western allies, including the United States, called for a ceasefire to support U.N.-led efforts to end the nearly four-year war that has killed more than 10,000 and pushed the country to the brink of starvation…."

Calling for a ceasefire and peace talks is dangerous, because both sides try to grab what they can quickly so they'll be in a better bargaining position.

It's interesting that the article mentions Obama administration officials calling for an end to all support for the war, when they were perfectly happy to support it they were in power. They *started* it, if you believe some of the overseas press, though I have trouble going that far.

I just hope the battle for Hodeida is over soon one way or the other. Without that port there's no way to feed the population. One of the quotes in the article said that if the grain mill were kept out of operation they'd have to import wheat flour, and I'm wondering *how* they're going to do that without the port.

The obama administration supported the transition process.
Not the Houthi rebels.

Or at least that is my understanding.
