So, I'm going the route for storing my 10mm WW2 stuff by using Litko magnectic bases and sheet metal in a carrying case.

Anyone care to chime in on how durable they are? Will they hold 10mm infantry, say 5-6 figs on a base?

Thanks

As long as you have a good flat surface on both ends the bond is decently strong. It won't hold them in place if you drop the box, but for casual shaking it should secure them nicely. If either surface is slightly warped or if there is dirt or grit the bond is weakened.

Thanks whitejamest

Are there other makers that have stronger bases than Litko or are they pretty industry standard across the board?

A friend of mine has convinced me on using magnetic vent covers. I buy mine at Lowe's simply because they are closer to me but I am sure you can find them in other shops. Just cut them into the length/width desired. The white side gets gorilla glued to the base of the transport box. Then another set gets similarly glued to the base of the troops . As whitejamst suggests flatness earns extra points and as he suggests it is only good against casual shaking.. I like Litko holding power better with 28 mm metal but smaller troops and plastics seems to do just as well. H

I recently made the mistake of super gluing stainless steel washers to the bottom of one of my collections wooden bases then trying them on magnetic sheets.

They don't stick at all.

Googled and found not all stainless steel is magnetic. Sigh.

Good luck with your project though!

If you are worried about drops being likely then I think you'd be better packing in foam trays rather than relying on magnetism. But, in my experience, the combo of mag tape and metal is good enough protection. I do mostly transports ships and 15mm though, not 28mm

You can buy magnetic sheet from McMaster-Carr with various strengths of holding power.
