I have purchased an ACW army that includes quite a few cannon that I cannot identify. The army has passed through more than one owner, so I cannot contact the creator. The cannon barrels are longer than most of the other guns barrels. They are painted black for iron. The curious thing about them is that the barrel is exactly the same diameter from beginning to end. My first guess was a 3" Ordinance rifle, but those guns swell up towards the rear of the barrel. Is this another type of gun, or was the miniature maker just not being exact in modelling the gun? (No bands, no tapering, no handles.) |

I don't know of any gun in the ACW that was a straight tube. My guess is replacement barrels? A gamer has trails and no barrels so just cuts a tube to length? |

I'm guessing it is supposed to be a 3 inch Ordnance. |

I googled images of the 3" ordnance and in a lot of those pics it does look like a straight tube due to the angle. If the sculptor was working from similar photos, pre-hi-speed internet images, he may very well have sculpted it that way. Or EC is right. |

Whitworths had long straight barrels, although the rear breech block would give them away. |

There were some 12 pound Confederate Napoleons cast in iron by Tredegar, and they would not have the characteristic muzzle swell of the Union bronze Napoleons. But I doubt that's what you have. I think I would go with Ordnance Rifles. |

Agree with the above – the Ordnance Rifles were iron so that makes sense |

You are at the mercy of how picky the manufacturer is for historical accuracy |

Could be a Rodman? Wiard? or one of several others. |
