There is a famous photo of U.S. Marines firing a machine gun in the Meuse-Argonne offensive in 1918. What weapon are they firing? It looks like a machine gun with one barrel above, and slightly separated from the lower one. |

If the crew are prone, facing left amid shattered trees, I think I know the one you mean, and if so, I recall it's a 37mm gun, TVAG |

This is a French 37mm cannon, designed in 1916 for use by infantry in the trenches. |

Those aren't marines according to the caption. They are doughboys of the 23rd Infantry. Here's another pic of the weapon itself:
