"Iran started mass-producing locally designed Kowsar fighter jet, Iranian newspapers announced on November 3, 2018. The F-5-derived Kowsar aircraft was unveiled on August 28 in a ceremony attended by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani

In a ceremony in the central city of Isfahan, Iran's Army Commander Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi and Defense Minister Brigadier General Amir Hatami inaugurated the production line of Kowsar at Iran Aircraft Manufacturing Industries Company, a firm affiliated to the defense ministry's Aviation Industries Organization…."

Northrop should sue them for IP theft, and/or production royalties.

F-5 'derived'? More like F-5 copy with Iranian-built instruments.

StarCruiser07 Nov 2018 5:11 p.m. PST

Well – it's not a bad plane to copy…

coopman07 Nov 2018 5:26 p.m. PST

How many of those can they produce before they go broke?

Col Durnford Supporting Member of TMP07 Nov 2018 5:32 p.m. PST

What scale are they?

Thresher0107 Nov 2018 5:43 p.m. PST

1/72nd, I imagine, given previous examples of aircraft they've shown.

Probably can build a fair amount with the 2 billion cash from the past administration…?

"Mass-produced"? The last time any aircraft was mass-produced was WWII by the USA. (OK, and the Brits, Russians, and Germans.)

Pretty sure Boeing still mass-produces airliners, and the F16 has had over 4500 built. There were less than 2400 F5s built (and another 1200 T-38 trainers built).

GROSSMAN08 Nov 2018 7:54 p.m. PST

Is Kowsar the Iranian word for F-5?

coopman09 Nov 2018 6:19 a.m. PST

That look more like a staged "fake" production photo to me.

FatherOfAllLogic09 Nov 2018 8:03 a.m. PST

Just checked…..Boeing plans to produce 800 aircraft this year.
