I've never been able to attend a war gaming convention before and this year I would like to attend one. I'm located in Grand Rapids, Michigan and I don't mind traveling within North America to attend the right convention. I am interested in all types of gaming – from RPGs to Warhammer to Historical battles. I really don't know where to start to find conventions to attend. So my question is: what are the must attend conventions and what type of games do they focus on? Thanks for all your help! |

If you want to start smaller and local here is one closer; ucon-gaming.org Even if you go for a day you might meet people to advise you on other cons. There is one in your area but it was in September. Good luck. |

Some upcoming gaming events in your neck of the woods: 1. This Saturday, November 10th, Game day at Old Glory 15s Company HQ. Grand Haven, MI. We are playing a 15mm regimental American War of Independence. 2. Next local convention is Sparta Con in Lansing, Michigan. Saturday, January 12th. 3. Flint Con at St. Paul Lutheran Church Flint, Mi. Saturday, February 9th 2019. Website: link or on Facebook link 4. There should be another Pro or Con Saturday only convention in Livonia, MI. Usually late March, 2019. Moving on to larger & multi-day conventions: 5. HMGS-East's Cold Wars at Lancaster Host, Lancaster, PA. March 15-16-17, 2019. 6. HMGS-Midwest's Little Wars at Westin Lombard Yorktown Center, 70 Yorktown Center, Lombard, IL 60148. April 26-27-28. I am sure there will be other conventions rolling out. Good Gaming! |

Note, Gen Con is in Indianapolis in August, while Origins is in Columbus in June. Both are good cons for your interests. GameHoleCon is in Madison, WI this weekend and is basically a mini- GenCon (5,000 attendees). LittleWars in Chicago is an awesome con in April for more historically focused games. |

If you want to get started soon, the first historical convention of 2019 in Michigan is just an hour away from you in Lansing == SPARTACON. Only a day long, it has a wide variety of historical miniatures games. Also flea market and dealers. This would be a good starting point to learn about cons. There will be info there on other cons in the area. You can learn about the next local con, FLINTCON, held a month later. You can meet people connected with most of the cons in the midwest so you can expand your search. Look me up at Sparta con, I will be running a Great War in East Africa game. See details here spartacon.weebly.com Hope to see you there |
