From time to time I watch the kiddie programs with the girls and I'm struck how often the "show" involves multitudes of attitudinous youths dancing in sync and the crowds just enjoying it at a level incomprehensible to me. This latest example came from last night's insufferable 90th birthday celebration for Mickey Mouse. (And I like Mickey Mouse!)

(Don't get me started on the singing which the 21st century deems necessary to adorn with superfluous scale runs on each word and heavily adorned phrasing with extra notes cluttering up perfectly pleasant melodies.)

On a scale of 1-10, with 1 being "I'd rather watch anything else" and 10 being "there is nothing more pleasurable in my life than to admire this with deep delight and a profound sense of enjoyment", how would you rate this type of entertainment? Assume the tune is passable and the sync is near perfect.

If you're still on my lawn at this point, get off of it.

1 … only because you said I couldn't use zero.

Now I'm really glad that while noticing this on the guide, I didn't call this show to my daughter's attention.

Yes, THIS!

I, too, will have to settle for 1.

-10 all this stuff is choreographed BS including the crowds level of enjoyment. Thank goodness my daughter now a mom of an 11 year old girl, my grand daughter, are not watching this stuff.

Old Wolfman05 Nov 2018 8:03 a.m. PST

Didn't watch it.

Just enough interest to pop in here and say I have no interest.

And to say that Bluegrass (music that is) is awesome.

Since my niece is a dancer, I would like to propose a higher number, but for me, 1 at best. I blame the "It's a Small World" ride at Disneyland for scarring me with its multicolored multiethnic cast of poppets all 'dancing' in horrid sychrony to that insipid song…

Cavcmdr05 Nov 2018 9:12 a.m. PST

You can buy these in miniature?

OK, I'm sure you can….

Any wargaming reference I've missed or just +1 morale factor?

I am falling down on the 1 side of this scale

I have no idea what the OP is talking about but it sounds like square dancing. They made us square dance in Junior High and I hated it with a passion. I still do.

Winston Smith05 Nov 2018 9:59 a.m. PST

There is something awful and exploitive about watching children choreographed like a cheerful Nuremberg Rally.

PS I've always hated Mickey Mouse.

I loved that ride to pieces as a lit'lun. It spectacularly failed to affect me in later life. grin

I'd rather light matches under my toenails…

I find the lack of Esther Williams (and grand MGM musicals in general) appreciation around here disturbing.

3 – There are lots of better types of dance to watch. The Thriller video and Mel Brook's Inquisition nuns have their place.

I find a lot of the choreography weirdly militaristic with undertones of authoritarianism. So, a 1 for me.

Cacique Caribe06 Nov 2018 6:24 p.m. PST

Didnt even know about the celebration, or that the mouse was 90 years old.

The way I see it, the Mickey Mouse that our parents and we grew up with died in the early 90s. What came next was essentially unrecognizable and boring as crap.

Sync what !?!?!?

Zephyr107 Nov 2018 3:16 p.m. PST

I have bad memories from enforced square dancing in 4th grade, so I give it a 0-1. It can go up from there for watching others dance (except river dancing. That's just sad.), and obviously the scoring is better for actual talent/good music, etc…

COL Scott ret08 Nov 2018 3:46 a.m. PST

1 and the same for the music also.
