If he were alive and in office today, every news personality and talk show host would be vilifying him or making crude jokes about him, even about his appearance.

On news interviews activists, celebrities and politicians would be demanding his impeachment. And world leaders would be criticizing his use of the big stick and claiming that he was making the world a dangerous place.

There would be marches and "spontaneous " demonstrations, and some participants would be wearing weird gaudy and crude pink hats and costumes.

Weird, huh.

Dan
PS. I'm surprised that his statues are still up. I better shut up. Don't want to give the crazies any ideas.

A. The world today is different from 1901 or 1919
B. Roosevelt had an awareness of diversity and took heat when he invited Booker T Washington to the White House
C, Roosevelt regulated big business
D. Roosevelt supported the work of the "muckraker" press at McClures and other progressive magazines.
E. Roosevelt couldn't abide those who disagreed with him and would publicly lambaste them in no uncertain terms. Today he might eschew politics for a political talk show.

TR was a bad Bleeped text in his own right. For a number of reasons. But so was AJ and GW. However, in today's PC environment, AJ and the Trail of Tears, etc., didn't make him very PC with the American Indians, e.g. ACLU, lib left, academic intellectual types. And that is understandable …

GW again today basically he is just seen as a slave owner by some … So we all know how that goes …

I know some want to remove AJ's statue in New Orleans. And have vandalized his grave site IIRC. So once again the very vocal minorities and lunatic fringe make a lot of noise. Where most Americans know little about their own history. For better or worse.

But as pointed out today is not 1901, or 1812 or even 1776 … Perceptions, etc., change as time goes on in many cases … Again for better or worse.

Our history is what it is, you can't rewrite it not matter how good, bad or ugly it was. But again, most in the USA have little to no concept of history. Either in the USA or the world …

GW was a gentleman not so much a "bad ass." Teddy was a bit urbane, more of a gentleman too. Id say AJ with emphasis on the "bad" part of badass.

Jackson was an upjumped hillbilly who got power to take his revenge on those he felt had wronged him. That pretty much defines "Bad Ass", dontcha think?
The poll wasn't asking whether or not he was admirable.

The term has nothing to do with levels of gentility. It's about being tough, forceful, and courageous in the face of any opposition, and winning. Indeed, a person who can maintain their dignity while "kicking butt and taking names," is the epitome of the term. i would label a gentleman far more BA than a boor.
