Is the cover illustration a contemporary one or a modern adaptation of the Masterman drawings? Bit optimistic showing them capturing an eagle! (let alone the whitened belts etc). I had never heard of this book but suspect it is "Journal of a Soldier of the 71st or Glasgow Regiment , Highland Light Infantry 1806-1815." published in 1819, with a new more catchy title (I almost said dumbed down). The original fetches over £300.00 GBP, this works out cheaper…. |

That illustration is very familiar. I think the original was of a non-Scot regiment that captured the Eagle of the 8em de ligne at Barrosa? The 87th? GdeP I just found this on the internet. Hamilton Smith illustration. The chap with the eagle looks the same. link |
