I'm about to reorganise my casualty markers (again!) by utilising an idea I've had lurking in the back of my mind for a wee while.

I'm looking at Warbases custom casualty markers, with suitable slogans around the edge (rather than 'casualty marker') in a good seventeenth century typeface.

This is the bit I'm struggling with – the slogans.

The Covenanters aren't a problem "Couenant for Religion King and Kingdomes"

It's suitable rallying cries for the Royalists and Parliamentarians that are causing the issue.

Royalists: So far I'm thinking of the motto from the Marquis of Huntly's flag "for God, the King and Against All Traittouris" or "pro Deo Rege et Patria", which is actually from a Parliamentarian cornet. Not 100% sold on either to be honest.

As for Parliament , "pro Deo et Republica" from captain Ingoldsby's cornet. Again not totally sold on it.

So, any suggestions gratefully received.

"To him pudel" and "Bite him peper".

"Come out you cuckold" is another good one.

"As stubble to our swords"

"As stubble to our swords"

Seems very appropriate for a casualty marker.

"Vivat Carolus Rex"

and

"For God and Parliament"

Thank you all. 22nd and MajorB you did tempt me to have individual casualty markers, with a slogan for each regiment. Which would be very cool, but a nightmare to sort out.
CtG – I'd thought of your Parliamentarian suggestion this morning, before reading it here. So I think I have a Parliamentarian winner.

Like your Carolus Rex suggestion, but still not 100% sure on it.

So, thanks for all the suggestions, keep the Royalist slogans coming though.

You can't go wrong with "Dieu et mon droit" for Charles.

At all that's round.

"The King and the Cause!"

or

"Pro Regi et notis legibus angliae" (you may need to check my Latin and memory!)

Thanks one and all. I've plumped for the following:

"Pro Deo Rege et Patria"
"for God and Parliament" and
"Couenant for Religion King and Kingdomes".

Sadly the jury is out on whether the Scots markers can 'fit' all that in.

Going for Chapbook italic font.

Quite excited to see them. Might be less so when rebasing 80 casualty figures onto them though.

They should look great. I think the investment will be worth it in the end.

And here they are link
