Part One : Please Allow Me to Introduce Myself (1967-1976) I have wanted to do this for quite some time; it's a list of some of my favorite songs. I have restricted myself to one song per year, and also to one song per act. This format has forced me to make some tough choices. Some years I was spoiled for choice, and so some artists are represented by songs that aren't my absolute favorites. 1967 – Van Morrison, Brown Eyed Girl 1968 – The Rolling Stones, Sympathy for the Devil 1969 – David Bowie, Space Oddity 1970 – Three Dog Night, Mama Told Me Not to Come 1971 – T. Rex, Get It On 1972 – Jethro Tull, Thick as a Brick 1973 – Pink Floyd, Brain Damage 1974 – Queen, Killer Queen 1975 – Led Zeppelin, Kashmir 1976 – The Ramones, Beat on the Brat Please feel free to chime in with your own favorites (links appreciated). I'm working on Part Two, which will cover the years 1977-1986. I will post it on this thread when I'm done. Let's rock! Ron |

fifty years ago … seems reasonable. I would have chosen slightly differently (if I knew or cared about which year etc) but good, solid choices. I would choose ==> an American list (Bread, Eagles, Byrds, etc), ==> a Canadian list (Gordon Lightfoot, Guess Who, BTO, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Leonard Cohen…), ==> a United Kingdom list (George Harrison, Beatles, Mary Hopkin, Pickettywitch – only one song really, Uriah Heep, Donovan, Emerson Lake and Palmer, etc), ==>a European list (Focus) and ==>an Australian list (Chain, Masters Apprentices, Olivia Neutron-Bomb, La De Das, The Seekers, Sherbet) list just to sneak a few more in. |

Ah. Now I would have to stretch Folk to the start of British Invasion, and coax the last of British Invasion to--disco, maybe? Followed by Celtic? In an effort to avoid pretty much that entire playlist. Strange. I'm the right age--peak Baby Boom--but the music of my own era never took with me, and I continue to wage war with the electric guitar to this day. |

I started with "Brown Eyed Girl" because I had heard it for as long as I could remember, but had no idea when it was released; I was surprised to find out how old it was, and that was when I had the idea for the list. By the way, it's time for my first revision: 1970 – The Doors, Roadhouse Blues "Mama Told Me Not to Come" is a fun song, but "Roadhouse Blues" is a great one. Besides, there's no way I could leave out The Doors. Ron |

"Besides, there's no way I could leave out The Doors." Well, it's easier than leaving out The Windows (not to mention getting in… ;-) link (Bad pun! Bad pun! ;-) I don't have a list per se, I just like anything upbeat. When I'm in the mood for something, I just grab the CD it's on and crank it up… |

Part Two: Darling, I Don't Need to Make No Apology (1977-1986) This is the "good stuff" for me; I was listening to a lot of these songs as they were being released, rather than discovering them later. There is really an embarrassment of riches during this time, so I found it a challenge to squeeze (most) everyone in. 1977 – Kate Bush, Wuthering Heights 1978 – Elvis Costello and The Attractions, Pump It Up 1979 – Tubeway Army, Are Friends Electric? 1980 – The Cure, A Forest 1981 – The Police, Invisible Sun 1982 – Thomas Dolby, She Blinded Me With Science 1983 – Eurythmics, Love is a Stranger 1984 – Van Halen, Panama 1985 – Lone Justice, East of Eden 1986 – Peter Gabriel, Mercy Street Part Three is in the works, covering 1987-1996.
