I received a copy of this a few days ago and thought that I would post some more info about it for those that might be interested. There is not much on this forum about them.
A copy of the main TSATF rules is required as this is just an ACW variant to the main rules.
A 20 figure inf. unit represents 2 companies. 2 or 3 of these represent a battalion (the term used for a wing of a regiment or maybe any formation smaller than a regiment). Two such battalions will represent a regiment.
A 12 figure unit of cavalry will represent 2 companies/troops. All cavalry need to be represented by mounted and dismounted figures.
Artillery would be rare at this scale of skirmish, but can be fielded as a section or even a 2 section battery if desired.
Troop quality is rated as regulars, militia and untrained.
There are 4 classes of targets for firing and fire is resolved by rolling D20s with playing cards being flipped to determine key figure hits (same procedure as TSATF).
Weapon types include smoothbore muskets, rifled muskets, rifled carbines, smoothbore carbines, shotguns, smoothbore field guns, rifled field guns, light guns and heavy guns. Breechloading and repeating small arms have special rules to simulate their higher rate of fire. Artillery can fire spherical case shells but must roll for faulty fuses when they fire. Untrained and militia inf. are penalized slightly when they fire. There are special rules for being prone, shotguns, "the deadly ground" as you approach enemy units, artillery ball bounce-through, artillery reload times, a "second effort" rule for charging units that fail to reach their intended target.
Included are four scenarios with suggested variations to try out.
If you have any interest in ACW skirmish battles of the TSATF type with a fair no. of figures on the table, I recommend that you give these a try. The price is very reasonable. Thanks for reading.
