Typical for the time, Armand. Also, stealing a horse in the Old West was seen as the next closest thing to killing the rider yourself, given the poor chances of surviving hostile country without a horse. But yes, horses were stolen on both sides of the border. So were cattle and sheep. After all, I'm descended from Border Reivers. Dad's side of the family lived on the Western end of the border with England, while Mom's family lived on the western end of the border with Scotland. They've been raiding each other for at least a thousand years! |
