I'm currently considering the one-page pre-dreadnought rules in Featherstone's 1970 Naval Wargames. I've been experimenting with 3D printing, and a 1:1200 battleship of the period would be four inches long and take an hour to print, so I'm also looking at an earlier passage in his ship construction chapter and printing 1:2400 ships instead as follows: He states that he "scales down" the ship models, using a pre-dreadnought as example – making it 200 scale feet rather than 400, giving it four 6-inch, 12 3-inch and 14 lighter guns rather than the historical four 12-inch, 12 6-inch and 30 tertiaries – but otherwise sticking to 1:1200 and playing normally. Thus simplifying the complex batteries of period warships. Two questions: - In this case, would you proportionally reduce the range of torpedoes? - Would you halve the "hit points" of the ship or the damage of the weapons? Thanks for any thoughts. |

Yes (proportionally) and No, keep hit points the same. |

Think I might double weapon damage then to make the 6 inch as proportionately dangerous to the now "2nd-class cruisers." Otherwise the torpedo would become the primary weapon. |
