CRUEL SEAS

link

In Cruel Seas, you take on the role of a naval crew manning their fragile coastal craft as they head out day and night to take on both the sea and the enemy.
Command your flotilla of small ships as they head out to attack a convoy, drop off Commandoes for a behind-the-lines mission or task them with one of the other myriads of missions this small and versatile craft would perform.
Be it the Coastal waters of England or across the Channel to France, on to the Mediterranean waters or on further to the vast Island chains of the Pacific, Cruel Seas will ensure your small ships see plenty of adrenaline-fuelled action.

Really interested in this game. What osprey book/s would you recommend to learn more about the ships?

Nick B24 Oct 2018 10:24 a.m. PST

Pre-orders up but no information at all on the game mechanics!

I'm interested in this but at present they appear to be asking folk to buy blind with no idea of how it plays/works.

Strange marketing appraoch………

Banana Man24 Oct 2018 10:47 a.m. PST

Can I play this in the bath?

"Strange marketing approach…"

Actually, this is pretty common for our hobby.

I'd like to know what scale the boats will be.

Nick B24 Oct 2018 11:44 a.m. PST

I think they are 1/300 scale.

Banana Man24 Oct 2018 11:44 a.m. PST

I'd like to know what scale the boats will be.

Smaller than the real thing, I suspect.

Hi Shakespear

I suggest

As a General book E-boat vs MTB

For more INfo
British MGB & MTB
German E-boats & Kriegsmarine Coastal Forces

Warlord announced they are doing a play-through video.
"Coming soon."

They are doing packs of MtBs for the Italians, US, Soviets and Japanese too.

How big an area do you need for a naval battle where shells are being tossed a mile? The whole backyard?

David Manley24 Oct 2018 8:49 p.m. PST

Coastal Forces actions were mostly fought at hundreds of yards (sometimes tens) rather than thousands, so it makes sense for boat vs boat (although MGBs vs S Boats would have been more accurate :) )

Thresher0124 Oct 2018 11:53 p.m. PST

I saw a site with products, but sadly, no pics, or even the number of vessels included in the "flotilla" packs.

Can't/won't order without that info.

… The boats seem to be horribly close, and towing dice.

figuresales25 Oct 2018 6:15 a.m. PST

Wrong scale.

1/300 is far too big for this. Ground scale will be so squashed to allow movement and manoeuvre on normal 6x4 tables that ranges will be pathetically short. Probably not much over boat length.

The plastic MTBs are the smallest boats, the rest are resin models. They expect to run convoy scenarios with freighters, tankers and escorting destroyers in 1/300.
That is a tight fit in 1/600.

Is it just me, or does this look like "Crowded Seas"?
I may try the rules, just with 1/600.

Bash On25 Oct 2018 8:14 a.m. PST

Models look good, though. Instead of going to 1/600, might be fun expanding the 4x6 table to 8x12 or so. I really dislike the parking lot look--on land or sea. I know they all have models to sell, but still ….

Schogun25 Oct 2018 8:54 a.m. PST

It's a game, so go big or go home.

Bigger means more detail, too, so prettier on the table.

Good luck to Warlord. Hopefully the game will sell well enough so we see the Italians, Japanese and others. And possibly crew figures.

@David Manley -- how are your Narrow Seas rules going? Released soon?

mjkerner25 Oct 2018 9:41 a.m. PST

Jeez, who made the choice of 1/300? Great looking models, but absolutely the wrong scale, IMHO. It makes it look like a battle in a harbor, FFS.

David Manley25 Oct 2018 10:47 a.m. PST

Narrow Seas are just about done, but no point in releasing yet whilst CS is coming out, I don't want to flood the market :)

79thPA Supporting Member of TMP25 Oct 2018 3:02 p.m. PST

FOW with ships instead of tanks. That's disappointing.

Thresher0125 Oct 2018 6:29 p.m. PST

Still want the MGB 81 "whaleback" style, MGBs/MTBs (yes, they added a couple of torpedo tubes to them late in the war).

Schogun26 Oct 2018 5:42 a.m. PST

@David Manley -- maybe the world needs a choice!

Arthurb31 Oct 2018 4:31 p.m. PST

There are some new hints about the actual gameplay in Warlords' latest Article ( link ) like:

They appear to be pulling order dice from a bag to activate units.

Those 'dice towing nets" appear to be both speed indicators and turn templates.
