Do you even bother to look at Marketplace listings that are for auctions? I know I typically do not. I like the marketplace when sellers are selling through TMP, but I tend to stay away from places like eBay, unless there is something i just HAVE to have. You?

I rarely look at the Auctions listings.

Thomas O24 Oct 2018 7:06 a.m. PST

Almost never look at the auctions. I don't do much with Ebay anymore.

Yes, but not that much.

I use Ebay plenty, but since we have such an option here, I would usually rather use the Marketplace to deal "face to face".

No, if the seller can't bother to discern the difference between an offer and an auction, when the boards are explicitly labeled, I'm not interested. More broadly, if there is a thread where the original post is a link and no other information, I am not interested.

The overlap case between these two is using EBay for BIN. Then again, if you bother to write it up in the thread, that case would be obvious as opposed to a generic link to EBay with no context.

I use eBay quite a bit, but never open up auction posts in the marketplace. eBay is for auctions, the marketplace is a flea market.

wolvermonkey24 Oct 2018 10:49 a.m. PST

Yep all the time. I use Ebay a lot and this lets me know of something I may not have thought to look for.

Old Contemptibles24 Oct 2018 11:14 a.m. PST

Me too, I look at the auctions. I have bought a few things which otherwise I would not have known of if it wasn't posted on TMP.

I look if it's something I'm interested in.

If the seller doesn't give any details of what they are selling like "stuff for sale" and a link I don't bother.

eBay is nothing but a store anymore, that demands you leave Feedback. grin

I very much hope this is not a spoof or another hallucination.

When I buy on ebay I always select the "buy now" listings. I usually have no time for auctions.

Let me rephrase that. I've got plenty of time. I just don't have patience to wait and then see the item snatched away at the last second.

I almost never view the marketplace, here. If I want something, I go to e-Bay: greater availability for what I want; professional setup for selling. Cheers!

Remember the debates we had years ago on how to "win auctions"?
There were all kinds of strategies, based on last minute sniping and all that.
To them the game of the auction was everything. It didn't really matter how much they paid in the end, as long as they won. Cleverly. At 11:57 Sunday night.

As I said above, to me eBay is nothing but a store but with annoying requirements.
If I need 10 …. Zrinyi, I check it out. I will find some stores selling at close to retail. There is a bewildering range of costs versus shipping. Some have two in stock. Some have one. Few indicate if they will only charge shipping once.
Once in a blue moon is it worthwhile.

Always keep both market boards open. Whether eBay or TMP my shopping dollar is good at both.
