In your miniature wargaming, do you find that you can only focus on one period at a time, with everything else going onto the back burner? |
Uparmored | 20 Oct 2018 7:13 p.m. PST |
Yes, I've been focused on the year 1989 and a fictional invasion of Cuba for almost a decade now, in different scales. I think I'll focus on this for the rest of my life. Except for skeletons. Someday I want to have an army of skeletons. Era? The same one as in Jason and the Argonauts, when skeletons existed. |

Uparmored, you mean the Harryhausen Era? Dan |
Wargamer Blue | 20 Oct 2018 8:08 p.m. PST |
No, I like to multitask through all the wargaming era's. |
darthfozzywig | 20 Oct 2018 8:14 p.m. PST |
I'm already distracted and on to another subject before I finish this. |
Doctor X | 20 Oct 2018 8:41 p.m. PST |
Capable of multitasking but then things don't get done as fast. Last few years I've been grinding away at one period at a time, completing several, with the occasional dalliances to maintain sanity. |
Lascaris | 20 Oct 2018 9:07 p.m. PST |
I've been focused on the period of cavemen to spaceships for a long time and will probably never change… |
Memento Mori | 20 Oct 2018 11:15 p.m. PST |
No – usually my projects are in different scales – eg 28 Saga 15DBA 6 Black POwder – so going back and forth helps breaks the monotony of painting |
arthur1815 | 21 Oct 2018 1:48 a.m. PST |
Pretty much: I focus on Napoleonic Wars/War of 1812, with occasional diversions into ECW, but that's it. |
Herkybird | 21 Oct 2018 1:58 a.m. PST |
I focus on one period…for a while! – Then 'Oooh..Shiney!' kicks in and the last project often sits unfinished (sigh!) |
ZULUPAUL | 21 Oct 2018 3:41 a.m. PST |
I get too bored doing one period for too long so I flit between periods/types rather frequently. Like right now I have WWII Germans & Amazons on my painting table. |
Dynaman8789 | 21 Oct 2018 4:27 a.m. PST |
Yes, one period for a day or two, then another for another couple days, then another… |
FusilierDan | 21 Oct 2018 4:28 a.m. PST |
I tend to move around. I may "focus" for a month or two on one project to get some headway but usually have figures for two or three projects going at a time. |
rustymusket | 21 Oct 2018 5:00 a.m. PST |
I work on one and think about another one or two periods most of the time. |
Vigilant | 21 Oct 2018 5:11 a.m. PST |
Far too boring. Leaving off 1 to work on another keeps my interest levels up. |
kodiakblair | 21 Oct 2018 6:00 a.m. PST |
I don't stick to a period but a country. Events relating to Scotland, starting 77AD with the return of Agricola to Britain up to the Anglo-Scottish wars of the 1500's. Been plenty there to keep my interest these last 35 years. |
Stosstruppen | 21 Oct 2018 7:35 a.m. PST |
Nope, currently working on Mexican War, SCW, WW2, and Samurai. I like to paint different stuff, unless I have to get things done for a game…. |
advocate | 21 Oct 2018 8:31 a.m. PST |
I will only have one main project at a time, but usually have some other bits of painting around as well. |
robert piepenbrink | 21 Oct 2018 8:44 a.m. PST |
If I'm trying to get a new army or period to the tabletop, I try to concentrate on it, but if I'm just adding to existing forces, I prefer a mix of scales and stages in the process. |
Col Durnford | 21 Oct 2018 8:57 a.m. PST |
Yes and no. I paint in batches and will have one primary unit on the painting table and several smaller projects ready for attention as time becomes available. |
bruntonboy | 21 Oct 2018 12:55 p.m. PST |
Of course I concentrate on one era at a time.for about an hour at a time. :) |
coopman | 21 Oct 2018 12:58 p.m. PST |
That would take all the challenge out of it. |
etotheipi | 21 Oct 2018 3:27 p.m. PST |
One period at a time … no. |
pzivh43 | 21 Oct 2018 4:29 p.m. PST |
I would like to do one period at a time, but it seems ---oh, look shiney new figures!! |
KSmyth | 21 Oct 2018 4:44 p.m. PST |
No, I usually trade off painting between two periods. It keeps things interesting. |
Old Contemptibles | 21 Oct 2018 5:39 p.m. PST |
I spend some time on one and then the other. There is some spill over. |
Whirlwind | 21 Oct 2018 6:50 p.m. PST |
Gaming or painting? Although the answer is no in either case. I try to keep to two painting projects at any one time, one in 6mm, one in another size. |
Legion 4 | 22 Oct 2018 7:38 a.m. PST |
Yep … 6mm Sci-fi … period … |

Mooseworks8 | 22 Oct 2018 8:27 p.m. PST |
No, I can usually juggle three concurrent campaigns. |
UshCha | 22 Oct 2018 11:54 p.m. PST |
I wander around a bit, WW2 to Modern. But with a commaon basic mechanism underlying it. |
