I knew you would do raspberry facing's, making the Russian uhlans the coolest looking uniform

Sword knots, every button on the kurtka, lace on the Czapka…..amazing. The harness on the grey horse (not easy that) so neatly done

Idle curiosity. Lance pennons, The plain white ones. Some distinguishing mark for a sub-unit or just work in progress?

Thank you very much!
Yes, as I understand it, the first battalion had white flags.

I knew you would get it right.

If they were not at Waterloo, then I am profoundly ignorant…

Many thanks, my frieds!

Half should already have deserted.

alexkalinin19 Oct 2018 11:22 a.m. PST

No, I'm sorry, this is a Russian Lithuanian regiment. He could not be at Waterloo. And there were no deserters in it!

Jcfrog19 Oct 2018 11:46 p.m. PST

Lot of " Poles" went to N side.

alexkalinin20 Oct 2018 2:12 a.m. PST

Yes, that's right, thanks for the clarification. In the summer of 1812 almost half of the regiment deserted.

I am told Russian named units did not come from named provence. If so would guess maybe command/ officers might be a reason. Possible still could have by chance manned by lots of Polish residents.

Usually yes. Smolensk regiment was not formed in Smolensk.
But it was the Lithuanian regiment that was replenished by the natives of Lithuania and Belarus, on a voluntary basis. Therefore, there were many Poles or Lithuanians. Of course, they deserted or transferred to the Lithuanian army.

Jcfrog20 Oct 2018 1:30 p.m. PST

That's why my Polish Russian lancer is half sized.

alexkalinin20 Oct 2018 6:39 p.m. PST

Polish or Lithuanian?

That was a fine distinction back then…Polish or Lithuanian…tended to be much the same thing two hundred years ago

alexkalinin21 Oct 2018 9:49 a.m. PST

Yes! I meant the name of the regiment.
