ACP164 is set in a universe invented 30 years ago by Steve Gallacci for his comic series, Albedo Anthropomorphics.

This world is populated by sapient mammals and avians. There are two main factions: ConFed, whose forces include Extra-Planetary Defence Force (EDF), and the Independent Lapine Republic …."

With Coopman on this.

It's actually a pretty interesting series/setting.

The combat is pretty realistic (for being 30+years ago's guess at future warfare on an interplanetary scale).

If I explained why it has furries it'd spoil a pretty major plotpoint.

Though typical for something created then, the bad-guy rabbits are capitalist while the good-guy mixed society is highly socialist.

LoudNinjaGames19 Oct 2018 8:43 p.m. PST

I will speak on it.

Albedo is a good, solid science fiction story with deep political and social commentary wrapped in the guise of the anthro animal comics of the 80s. It is not a furry comic.

The universe is a portrait of two societies clashing over distinct differences of opinion of lifestyle. At the same time we end up with commentary on privacy, over-involved states, information warfare, and the effect of a very stagnate society on an ever growing population.

The hardware in the game is the sort of stuff that hard scifi fans would recognize and love. Bullets and missiles are more common than lasers and kinetic weapons are demonstrated as being every bit as effective as explosive ordinance.

Sure there are cats, rabbits, mice, bears, birds, penguins, etc. But those rabbits are nasty and the main cat character is a confident and well-rounded female lead character the likes of Ripley or Sarah Conner with enough page time to really develop.

It is a hidden gem that any science fiction fan owes it to themselves to read.

Lion,

The comic really is not as simple as good guys/bad guys. the ConFed has its own issues and that is demonstrated time and again.

LNG Thank you that was a great summery!

He's right of course that the comic isn't your typical "furry" story. Its a hard science comic mostly focusing on a single character but slowly growing to encompass others in an expanding story. For those interested the comic is now online to be ready freely.

The game aims to capture the setting in table top form. However the game does not follow the comic but rather proceeds it. Taking place some 20 ish years before the comic during the First Lapine War. Thus exploring the events that lead up to Erma of the EDF.

Just added a new species to the mix.
Otters – sculpted bareheaded, with helmet & beret.
This will feature in the mix of figures for kick starter pledges, but as they are a release of the month rather than funded by Kick Starter they are also available to order from acp164.com

For full details check out the Update Page : link

Designers Notes 2: Variable Movement Rates

Why is movement randomized in ACP 164? Having spent a few years in the infantry, I think that randomized movement better represents battlefield ( or just any field ) conditions. Real terrain is never as flat as terrain on the gaming table, unless you are representing a battle fought on a Cricket field. Whole regiments of infantry can disappear between Seminary Ridge and Cemetery Ridge at Gettysburg. When a unit moves through terrain, many things affect its movement speed. Units are trying to maintain formation while contending with elevation changes, "what a minute vines" that grasp at your uniforms and equipment, unseen holes, rocks, etc.

Those familiar with the WWII version of Combat Patrol ™ ( link ) know that the Guts attribute is a surrogate for training and morale. This affects a number of things in ACP 164, and movement is one of them. When the figures in a unit are directed to move, the player draws a card from the Action Deck and consults the movement arrow. The movement can be drastically different between activation's.

I use an approximation of a Normal distribution ( the well-known "bell curve ) to represent the movement speeds on the Action Cards. Each Guts level has a different mean, or average, movement speed. Generally elite units move faster than regular units that themselves move faster than green units. Over time, an elite unit can be expected to move farther than the green one.

Buck Surdu 2018

Having played a lot of games of Combat Patrol, I love the way that this simple mechanism adds to the feel of the game. In a skirmish game it can be critical that your troops make it to the next piece of cover before they are the subject of incoming fire, and this is just not guaranteed on a real battlefield, so why should it be on our model battlefield. I rationalize that the differing movement rates, dependent on training of troops also reflects the better 'skills and drills' of well trained troops; the elite troops are more likely to have already identified best route to the next piece of cover, will have there pouches done up, there lives in order and be ready to "MOVE!" when the order comes.

@Eli/Loud Ninja Games: True enough, the ConFed does have some ugly issues. But the Rabbits are distinctly on the worse side of morality in the story.

Things like bombarding population centers, instead of military targets.

I am generally not a fan of furry, but Albedo is very well-written (It's about on the level of Disney's Robin Hood, IMO).

Buck Surdu, Albedo Combat Patrol author has written up a great game report. We've added to update page @ kickstarter.com/projects/179272384/albedo-combat-patrol-the-28mm-sci-fi-miniatures-ga/posts/2323372

We've just added a photo battle report of a sharp little counter-terrorist action fought out at Burrows End Subway Station.

The ruthless ILR forces have hijacked a Subway Train, packed it full off explosives and driven it to Burrows End, whose main platform is under the planets Parliament building.

There intention is to rig it for explosives and collapse the building above thus destabilising the planets government.

Full report with lots of photos @

Here's the very first images of the new EDF Officer sculpt.

As with all the all the miniatures in the Albedo Range it is multipart so you will be able to use any head style (Combat Helmet / Beret / Bare Head) or species (Cat / Dog / Fox / Rabbit / Otter) and a range of weapon arms.
I can't wait to add some to my ConFed Army.

'Down in the Tube Station at Midnight' – A couple of weeks ago we were over in Ireland playing Albedo with Justin from Beasts of War. The video play though featuring the Subway Station has just been put up @ beastsofwar.com/featured/lets-play-albedo-combat-patrol-burrow-station-scenario

The Subway station together with the miniatures and rules are available on Albedo Miniatures Kick Starter which closes on Saturday 17th November: kickstarter.com/projects/179272384/albedo-combat-patrol-the-28mm-sci-fi-miniatures-ga

I was just about to ask about that subway setup.

Please tell me the subway be available after KS? I don't have the $400 USD to pledge for that right now!

Chris Abbey15 Nov 2018 11:28 p.m. PST

Yes, the Subway kits will be available after KS from Sally 4th, however you do not need to pledge $400 USD, it is a modular kit, the idea is that you can start off small and add to it over time.

Chris Abbey23 Nov 2018 9:09 a.m. PST

The Albedo Miniatures Kickstarter was very popular, we were fully funded in first 13 hours, and raised three times our funding goal. We know that for some the timing was not right, so we have made late pledges available via Backerkit until the end of January.

This includes late stretch goals for the iconic Aerodyne, a protestors box set and Toki, a great little character model.

The place to go for full details is: acp164.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Lion in the Stars23 Nov 2018 2:20 p.m. PST

Oooh, thank you for the late pledge option!

Last month I was over in Ireland making some videos with 'Beasts of War'

We had a great time. One of the scenarios that we played was 'Cityfight' which featured the new range of Sally 4th Sci-Fi buildings.

Update on Albedo

It has been a busy month for the Albedo team since the kick starter completed. We have had a lot of posts showing progress on sculpting and test casting of new Albedo Miniatures, but of course there is a lot more than that going on. Mike & Buck have been busy putting the finishing touches on the Albedo sourcebook and rulebook. The draft, full rulebook will be going out to backers in PDF format in the next few days for play testing. Steve Gallacci has been busy with new artwork and our card artists has designed the format for the Albedo Action Decks.

Today we can take a look at the format for the EDF and ILR card decks and the card back artwork for the main EDF pack.

We are taking late pledges via Backerkit, and we have some exciting stretch goals that are half funded, which include the iconic aerodyne, a civilian / protestor / police box set, a Toki character sculpt and a 6 wheeled ILR vehicle. Check it out on Backerkit @ acp164.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders
