"Nearly half of all current military troops believe the United States will be drawn into a major war soon, a jarring rise in anxiety among service members worried about global instability in general and Russia and China in particular, according to a new Military Times poll of active-duty troops.

About 46 percent of troops who responded to the anonymous survey of currently serving Military Times readers said they believe the U.S. will be drawn into a new war within the next year. That's a jarring increase from only about 5 percent who said the same thing in a similar poll conducted in September 2017…."

When you have military leaders like Marine Corps Commandant Gen. Robert Neller earlier this year telling Marines that he thought there was a "big-ass fight" on the horizon, or U.S. Defense Secretary wanting military readiness to be massively increased in one year, it is going to be a natural that soldiers are going to be concerned. But when you look at the threats in the world today (versus 2017), you do not see any significant changes with the exception of two. The threat of a Korean war has decreased, and China is being more assertive in the South China Sea.

Not that there shouldn't be concern…

However, consider the alternative:

"95% of US troops are sure we are safe and no reason to worry!"

Not exactly the right outlook for those who have served.

I doubt the threat of war with NK has really decreased, but people are trying to put a positive spin on it, while both China and Russia continue to violate UN sanctions, and smuggle stuff into and out of NK.
