I found this haunting: "There is a tradition in the U.S. Navy that no submarine is ever lost. Those that go to sea and do not return are considered to be "still on patrol.""

Not denial, coopman.

We know exactly what happens when a sub doesn't come back.

It's a statement that even if your sub goes down, you will be remembered.
