Hi I am a primary school teacher and a child in my class has brought in this jacket – can anyone identify it – the label inside says 1907.

You have to sign into Google in order to view the picture. Why don't you just follow the "Images" instructions TMP link and include them in your post?

Is this better?

No idea, but seems to be a dress uniform of some sort. Presumably a private's, since there is no indication or rank (and it's pretty plain). If it's even military at all: maybe for a brass band? The facing colour on the collar would be a bit of a clue, but the buttons are going to be your best bet.

The cut away at the front and the shape of the cuffs suggest Scottish. Post 1881 yellow was the normal colour for Scottish non-royal regiments. the buttons are the general service type (so no help).

Thanks John – least I have something to tell the children.

Yellow was the normal facing colour for Scottish regiments although to me the colour of the collar and in particular the lace may be buff rather than faded. Lace on British uniforms were white except for units with buff facings, the lace being in buff. A couple Scottish regiments applied for exceptions to allow them to retain their traditional facing colour, the Highland Light Infantry (yellow to buff) and the Seaforth Highlanders (yellow to buff).
