I recently acquired the 1989 version with everything except the minis. What minis are supposed to be in there? |
Moonbeast | 16 Oct 2018 3:06 p.m. PST |
Ugly ones. Seriously ugly ones, at least for the terminators. IIRC there were 10 terminators and 20 pure strain genestealers. If you choose to purchase current terminators they come on 40mm round bases which won't fit completely on the tile squares for the 89 Hulk version. |

so I should get newer ones that look nicer… |

Here is a pic of one of the 1st ed. sprues. The genestealers weren't awful but the terminators were really bad.

Current Genestealers should still fit. But you'll have to look for some older terminators. |
Moonbeast | 16 Oct 2018 3:30 p.m. PST |
Just dusted off my copy and the 40mm bases the new termies come with are too big. The old metal versions of the termies were on 25mm bases, I don't know if the new termies could be based on 25mm bases. You might be able to get away with basing them on 30mm bases and it should work okay. |

The original genestealers aren't that bad, I've mixed them in with newest ones without them looking out of place…..the terminators are ugly. They are available quite often through ebay, if your determined to have them but otherwise your best bet is probably to pick up newer ones (but not the latest) also through ebay. Here is an example of the next generation of terminators through ebay auction
Those are from the next version of space hulk I believe and they are I think similar size wise to the 1989 version, they would need to be rebased if like most of these they had been placed on a larger bases. |

Huh, found some of the originals painted
Anyway some of the newer ones from an later 40k edition starter set…
Which shows that they get larger overtime and they at least wont fit on the smaller bases. So basically look for plastic and metal terminators that are either on 25mm bases or look small on the larger bases. |

Season to taste. I prefer the original plastic ones. And they have the benefit of fitting on the board spaces! |
SBminisguy | 16 Oct 2018 5:08 p.m. PST |
Well, if you really want to do Space Hulk "1989" you could use these snazzy astronaut figures instead of Space Marines!

I liked the original metal ones. But everyone seems to be selling assault claws, and I have enough assault claws.

You could just use basic space marines. Getting them on 25mm should be easy, and cheaper than termies. Plus more modern ones are probably getting on similar size for old termies anyway. |

Whichever ones you run across. I have the 1st Edition rules and have had no problems with the miniatures. I had a blast when converting some (2nd edition) basic terminators into more special ones for it. Yes, the Terminators are not the vest of minis but a good paintjob transforms even the worst shite more or less to gold. Also remember that the terminator models have probably never looked dynamic… |

Thank you everyone for your help. I am not getting into the 40K universe as such, but have always wanted this game. I appreciate the help. It will make it easier picking out the stuff I want. |
nugrim | 17 Oct 2018 6:52 a.m. PST |
the 2000s space hulk termis are gorgeous |
Earl of the North | 17 Oct 2018 7:04 a.m. PST |
If your interested there also the Mantic Peacekeepers which are pretty much a high tech terminator….
link They will fit on smaller bases and comes with two hard plastic sprues of five figures including two heavy weapons, they have a similar close combat weapon and weapon combination. |

Check out ChaosOrc.com. He's got a bunch of older minis, as well as some inexpensive loose Termies that will fit on 25mm bases just fine. And if you need bases, check these out: link

I bought my set years ago, used. The Terminators were painted horribly, in what looked like red bubblegum. So I used Catachans that I had painted instead. It had no effect on game play at all, and guys running around in wife beater trailer trash shirts looked a lot more desperate. |

Speaking of space hulk…..
New Space Hulk Tactics game (PS4 & Xbox1). |

Yes, pics #1 and #3 are the ones that came in the game box. Then I bought the metal ones in the box shown in pic #6 … Still have the game & metal minis … |

I gave away the original plastic terminators from that game (as 1: they were ugly and an offense to my sense and 2: I already had the METAL minis they released for 40k around the same time.) The SpaceHulk 2.0 terminators were an improvement – and were the default terminator models for space marines until they were redone in plastic in the late 90s. The Genestealers were the same ones until redone a bit later. |
