Just discovered these things exist, by watching an older Mini Girl video, on YouTube. My reason for asking, is more based on the desire to speed drying of PVA Glue on textured bases, rather than wanting to speed-dry paint. Acrylic paints tend to dry up in 15 minutes, for most purposes.

Here is an example of a model I am interested in trying out: Amazon link. It seems as if it would concentrate the gentle heat, and moving air on, and around, the figure placed inside of it's cavern-like cavity (it has a circulating fan). This particular model has a detachable base, so I could use a foam block, to increase its drying space, for larger figures, if need be.

I am also intrigued with the idea that these devices may gently speed up the drying of Dip'ed figures, as well, without resorting to using a hair dryer, which would need to be mounted, and would take up more space on my painting desk.

So, have you used them? What was your experience like? Would you recommend them? Why? Cheers!

Hmm.

Doesn't UV light break down colors on some surfaces like neoprene and such? Or is that just a wargaming "urban legend"? :)

UV is destructive on paints (fades colors, makes plastic brittle, over time and exposure), but this model has heat, and a blower, without using UV; UV is a separate option, which I would never use for the reasons you raise.

It creates a small cave wherein I would place my mini's I wished to dry quickly. That is why I find it intriguing. A blow-dryer will work, similarly, but they are high heat, high volume airflow, big, and bulky. Not to mention they're more difficult to mount on my painting counter. I want something small, easy to use, and inexpensive. This seems to hit all the right buttons.

I may take the plunge, and report my experiences if none of TMP's members responds with their experiences. Seems like a great option. Cheers!

Worth a try, I guess.

Personally, I have a spray hood set up in my garage, so that's what I use for this. But not everyone has one, and a spray hood is certainly less portable than one of these.

Oops. I kinda panicked when I read "UV" in the Amazon listing's title. I should have read on a bit more.

I use a small cheep hair dryer to accelerate drying.

Nails use acrylic enamel or straight enamel, a different formulation.

If you black undercoat, UV isn't your friend over time.

The fan 8n the nail dryers make sense though. But you can achieve this with a regular fan.

This particular model has a heater in front of the fan, so it blows heated air. It is temperature controlled, as well. That is what piqued my interest.

I ordered one, but it won't arrive until some time in November. I'll post on my experiences after I use it for a while. Cheers!
