I'm getting this awful mental image of our pilots having to eject because their aircraft will cease to respond in mid air:

If done as a game, I think it would be a very short one.

The closest visual thing I can think of is the scene in Godzilla (2014) with planes falling out of the sky, though that was supposedly due to an EMP.

PS. Of course, many will say that such a thing is impossible, and the product of paranoid minds:

Another reason to "buy American", and to insist that suppliers don't subcontract this stuff out to the Chinese, and other enemies/dubious allies.

Any equipment that over-relies on computer electronics, networks and software can be hacked, and human error or carelessness only makes it that much worse.

Having the stuff made overseas, makes it even easier though, especially when it is designed in from the start with secret back doors.

>imagines a pilot desperately pounding on a monitor displaying Microsoft's 'Blue Screen of Death' to make it reboot<

uh-oh… :-o

No, it'll be a red screen – Chinese flag, just for the full, shock effect.

Good point.

And, for an even bigger "shock effect" (to really mess up with their minds and show who's the boss), maybe the screen will pop up a message like this when you try to eject.
